MIM is a cost-effective method of
producing highly complex metal parts at a potential savings of up to 50% versus
casting or machining. MIM uses conventional injection-molding machines to inject
resin loaded with metal powder.
After the parts are molded the resin is removed by “de-binding,” then the metal
parts are sintered and finished as needed.

Next, we are excited to announce that we began operation at
a new location on March 29th.
We lost only two working days in
the process, and we were fully operational by the end of the first week. By
moving just 100 yards to the north, we increased our space by 50%, to 22,000
square feet and were able to consolidate our production and warehousing
facilities. Increased capacity, lower overhead, and more efficient operation are
key benefits of the move. And the work environment is greatly improved!

We have two pieces of good news to report coming into
On December 30th, we successfully completed
our final audit for ISO 9001:2000 Certification, which made for a busy
holiday season here at Pacific Plastics. It was our goal to clear the hurdle by
the end of the year, and we made it!
We started the process of upgrading
our Quality System to ISO standards in March. It was a major effort, but we are
already seeing positive benefits in our quality and productivity metrics.
The second item is that we have just installed a 500-ton
press, which significantly increases our production capacity. Two new
molds are scheduled to be on-line by the end of the month. Of course, we have
additional capacity that we are hoping to fill as the year progresses.
